T-Mobile’s Redmond, Oregon office/customer care center is a 77,484-square-foot facility located on a 13.1-acre site in Central Oregon. In an area that receives less than ten inches of precipitation per year, Site Solutions worked with the project’s architect to develop a native xeriscapic plant palette, which highlighted and featured the rugged terrain of the high desert into a thoughtful and economical solution of colored walls, walkways, portals and patios. Because of the 24-hour nature of the facility, extra care was paid to providing a clear, inviting and safe passage for employees from the parking lot to the building entry. Natural trail materials, boulders, and decomposed granite provide direct walks to the main lobby as they bisect planter islands. Existing junipers have been featured where feasible. Native groundcovers, shrubs and trees were replanted to help transition to existing parts of the site designated as undisturbed. Exterior seating areas are located where the native plant palette intersects with the bold and colorful portal wall, which helps to provide shade as well as mark the project from the street approach.
